The Sparx City Hop Take a Hike tour schedule, for Saturday, September 20th only, is below:
At 1 PM and 3 PM, meet at the Gateway District Trolley Stop on Euclid Avenue (just east of The Arcade and across from the 5th Street Arcades) to take the Historic Euclid Avenue tour. The Historic Euclid Avenue “hike” will combine exciting sections of the Gateway District and PlayhouseSquare tours into one Euclid Avenue route, highlighting the rich history and exciting current developments from The Arcade to the GE Chandelier. On this hour-and-a-half-long tour, attendees will learn about the Gateway District’s historic dime stores, such as Woolworth’s and Kresge’s, the incredible Arcade, which was modeled after the great light courts of Europe, the 5th Street Arcades and the 9. Home to Progressive Field, Quicken Loans Arena, East 4th Street, five hotels, unique stores and over 60 restaurants and bars, the Gateway District is the most visited neighborhood in Downtown Cleveland. The tour will also cover an intriguing portion of the PlayhouseSquare District. Known for being the second largest performing arts center in the country, PlayhouseSquare boasts even more than incredible theatres. Learn about renowned department stores, such as Halle’s and Sterling Linder, important social clubs, such as the Union Club, and, of course, the GE Chandelier. Along the tour route, history will come to life as actors portray Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the traffic light and gas mask, and Alan Freed, the disc jockey who coined the term “rock and roll.”
At 2 PM, meet at the Warehouse District trolley stop on Superior Avenue near Take 5 Rhythm & Jazz Tapas Lounge to take a tour of the Warehouse District, Cleveland’s First Neighborhood. On this hour-and-a-half-long tour, attendees will learn about the Rockefeller Building, the Bingham, lighthouse steps, the Warehouse District Anthology public art, and much more. Attendees will have the opportunity to admire breathtaking Victorian architecture while learning about the historic Garment District and hardware industry. The Warehouse District offers exceptional fine dining, clubs, unique shops, services and residential properties in a beautiful setting. Along the tour route, attendees will have the pleasure of “meeting” John D. Rockefeller. Be sure to check out Harris Stanton Gallery and SHAHEEN Modern & Contemporary Art while you’re in the neighborhood! To view other Warehouse District Sparx City Hop participants, click here.
