Take a Hike Tours

The award-winning Take a Hike program, presented by Dollar Bank, has kicked off for the season, offering five, free, guided walking tours every week now through September 16th of the Gateway District, Warehouse District, Civic Center, Playhouse Square and Canal Basin Park.  Each tour covers the history, culture, interesting trivia and future plans of the neighborhoods, and each tour features actors portraying important Clevelanders from the past.  Admission is free.  Donations are encouraged to help match grants and fund future tours.  The complete tour schedule can be found here.

Yes, there will be a Warehouse District tour on Saturday, May 23rd and a Canal Basin Park tour on Sunday, May 24th of Memorial Day weekend.

The program is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.  The tours also receive generous support from Ohio & Erie Canalway and Downtown Cleveland Alliance. 

Nearly 18,000 people have enjoyed the Take a Hike tours to date.  Make plans to “take a hike” this year, and join in the fun!

Take a Hike Tours

The kickoff to the 2015 Take a Hike tour season is here!  

A special lunchtime Take a Hike tour will be offered as part of Downtown Cleveland Employee Appreciation Week on Thursday, May 14th from 12:30 to 1:15 PM.  Meet in the Arcade (401 Euclid Avenue).  Bring your walking shoes to work, so you can “take a hike” in the Gateway District during your lunch hour!  Limited number of spaces available on this special abbreviated tour.  Admission is free.  RSVP to Kelly at 216-771-1994.  

Fox 8 recently featured the tours in Lorrie Taylor’s segment entitled “Fabulous Freebie:  Stroll down memory lane with Take a Hike tours.”  You can view the segment here.   And, Martha Mueller Neff of The Plain Dealer, covered this weekend’s Canal Basin Park tours here.

Neff highlights the special Canal Basin Park tour on Saturday, May 16th as part of the River Day festivities.  Meet at Settler’s Landing RTA Station at 1:00 PM.  As an added bonus, there will be a Lorenzo Carter Cabin Open house immediately following the tour.  Sponsored by Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corporation and Cleveland Metroparks.  RSVP for this special tour to Kelly at 216.771.1994.  For more information about River Day, click here.
